How to mail a PDF to someone in a Utah prison

Personal mail goes to a UDC mail processing center at USCF or CUCF (by facility). Mail is scanned and printed in color — the incarcerated person receives a copy, not your original pages.

Covers Utah Department of Corrections (UDC) state prisons — the Utah State Correctional Facility (USCF) and Central Utah Correctional Facility (CUCF). County jails and federal facilities in Utah have separate rules and addresses.

Where to send mail

Personal mail from family and friends (including printed PDFs)

Confirm which UDC facility holds the person via offender search, then use that facility’s address below. Include the incarcerated person’s name and inmate ID number. Use a standard #10 envelope with your complete return address.

— Utah State Correctional Facility (USCF) —
[Incarcerated Person's Name – Inmate ID #]
Utah State Correctional Facility
PO Box 165300
Salt Lake City, UT 84116

— Central Utah Correctional Facility (CUCF) —
[Incarcerated Person's Name – Inmate ID #]

Send to the facility directly — not the personal-mail PO Box

  • Privileged legal mailUSCF or CUCF facility address

Attorneys, courts, and legal professionals must register as approved senders and attach UDC-issued digital barcodes labeled “Legal Mail.” Mail without a barcode is returned. See UDC attorney information for registration and facility street/PO addresses.

  • Public legal, government, or business correspondenceUSCF or CUCF (same PO Boxes as personal mail, but different handling)

Courts, government offices, schools, banks, law enforcement (official capacity), and similar senders may mail directly to USCF or CUCF. These letters may be searched. If staff determine mail sent this way is actually from friends or family, it will be denied.

  • PhotographsPelipost or Flikshop (approved vendors)

Do not enclose photos in a regular letter envelope. UDC accepts photos only through approved photo services.

  • Books, magazines, greeting cards, postcardsNot accepted in personal mail

Postcards, greeting cards, and spined publications are prohibited. Do not send them to the processing center.

Format & content rules

  • Maximum five (5) pages per mailing. Mail exceeding this limit is denied; the incarcerated person receives a denial slip and the envelope is returned to you.
  • Pages must be typed or handwritten on one side only of 8½″ × 11″ paper. Photocopies are allowed if they meet the paper size requirement.
  • Use standard #10 envelopes (4″ × 9½″) only — other envelope sizes are not accepted.
  • Postcards, greeting cards, and similar items are not permitted in personal mail.
  • All physical mail is scanned and printed in color before delivery. Original documents are destroyed after successful scanning; scanned copies are stored for 30 days then disposed.
  • Do not send items you need returned — birth certificates, driver’s licenses, social security cards, official documents, money, stapled packets, newspaper clippings, stickers, glitter, or other prohibited items listed on UDC’s communication page.
  • Photographs must go through Pelipost or Flikshop — not through regular USPS personal mail.

Document mailing checklist

  1. Look up the person in UDC offender search and confirm they are at USCF or CUCF (not a county jail).
  2. Keep the PDF packet at or under 5 single-sided pages — split longer documents into multiple mailings.
  3. Print on 8½″ × 11″ paper, one side only; use a standard #10 envelope with your return address.
  4. Address to the correct facility PO Box with name + inmate ID, then mail as personal correspondence.

Send with PrisonPDF

  • Upload a multi-page PDF or DOCX and we print and mail it for you.
  • When you select Utah, we enforce the 5-page single-sided limit and standard #10 envelope.
  • You provide the correct USCF or CUCF address; we do not review PDFs — UDC may still reject mail that violates policy.
