How to mail a PDF to someone in a Georgia prison
Personal letters and printed pages go directly to the person’s GDC facility. Georgia is not on a statewide scan-to-tablet system — the incarcerated person receives the physical mail after inspection.
Covers Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) state prisons and other GDC facilities that use the same mail SOP. County jails and federal facilities in Georgia have separate rules and addresses.

Where to send mail
Personal mail from family and friends (including printed PDFs)
Use GDC Find an Offender for the GDC number and current facility, then GDC Find a Facility / Locations for that site’s mailing address. The envelope must include the person’s full name, GDC I.D. number, unabbreviated facility name (S.P., C.P., P.D.C., etc. are allowed), PO box or street address, city, state, and ZIP — plus your complete return address.
[Full Name] [GDC Number] [Facility Name — unabbreviated] [Facility PO Box or street address] [City, GA ZIP]
Special cases
- Books, magazines, and other publications → Publisher, dealer, or attorney of record only
Offenders may receive books/magazines/publications only from the publisher, a dealer, or their attorney of record — not from family packing them into a personal letter. Property limits and publication-review rules still apply (SOP 227.06 / 206.01).
- Privileged / legal mail → Facility, under privileged-mail procedures
Privileged mail (attorneys, courts, listed officials, press, etc.) is opened for contraband inspection in the person’s presence and is not read. Incoming privileged status generally requires the sender’s name and official status commercially printed on the envelope.
- Funds → Approved deposit channels — not cash in the envelope
Cash, personal checks, debit/credit cards, and similar instruments in the mail are treated as unauthorized currency / contraband. Use GDC-approved deposit methods instead of enclosing money with a PDF mailing.
Format & content rules
- Printed material or photocopies included with a letter are limited to 25 sheets of paper (SOP 227.06). Court transcripts for the person’s current case and certain returned legal copies have exceptions; privileged mail is not subject to that volume cap. Split longer PDFs into multiple envelopes.
- There is no statewide “scan center” address — mail the packet to the facility where the person is housed. Non-privileged mail is inspected and may be randomly read.
- Always put a complete return address on the envelope. Incomplete sender/receiver addresses will not be processed.
- Do not send pre-stamped envelopes. Mail intentionally stained or defaced with lipstick, or that smells of cologne/perfume or other odors, shall be rejected.
- Postage stamps on incoming envelopes are removed or defaced by staff before delivery.
- Material printed from the Georgia Department of Corrections website is treated as contraband and will not be received or possessed by offenders — do not enclose GDC website printouts.
- Publications and images may still be rejected under SOP 227.06 publication criteria (weapons, escape, STG content, sexually explicit material, etc.). Nudity and sexually explicit depictions are broadly prohibited outside narrow educational/literary exceptions.
Document mailing checklist
- Confirm the person is in GDC custody and look up their GDC number and current facility.
- Look up the facility mailing address (not only the street address for visits).
- Keep printed/photocopied pages at or under 25 sheets per envelope; split longer documents.
- Address with full name + GDC number + unabbreviated facility name, include your return address, and mail as personal correspondence.
Send with PrisonPDF
- Upload a multi-page PDF or DOCX and we print and mail it for you.
- When you select Georgia, we enforce the 25-sheet printed-material limit; you provide the facility mailing address.
- We do not review PDFs — GDC may still reject or withhold mail that violates policy.
